Do You Want to Set Up a Successful Facebook Ad Campaign Like This One?

The impact of Covid-19 might have triggered a major shift in shopping habits but it doesn’t mean people have stopped spending. On the contrary, online shopping has skyrocketed in certain sectors. At TRCREATIVE, we are excited to share the results of a recent successful Facebook ad campaign. We made sure one of our clients, an online fishmonger, maximised their ad spend to significantly boost sales.

Take a look at the following stats, particularly the all-important return on ad spend (ROAS). Simply put, this is the total revenue generated from your Facebook ads divided by your total ad spend.

  • Our client reached a huge £29.16 ROAS
  • Every £1 our client spent on advertising generated £29.16 in sales
  • Cost Per Click (CPC) = £0.08
  • Average customer purchase = £105

Maximise Your Profits

The team at TRCREATIVE targeted multiple audience groups across Facebook and we were delighted with the results. In March 2020, our client’s lowest return per £1 of ad spend was £17.31 while the highest was £37.26. Overall, for an ad spend of just £271.81, we generated £8,048.30 in sales for our client.

There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has been hugely challenging and difficult for some businesses. However, people are spending more time online. This presents the perfect opportunity for you to target potential customers with a well-executed Facebook ad campaign to raise awareness of your brand and get those conversions. There is no reason why you can’t enjoy the same success as our online fishmonger and other clients. It may seem a daunting task without the help and support of a Facebook ads agency because you do need to know your ROAS from your CPC and CTR. That’s where we step in.

At TRCREATIVE, we know our stuff. We thrive on the challenge. We love assessing the data. We know how targeted online advertising can benefit your business type. If you are thinking about running a Facebook ad campaign, now could be the best time to make it happen. Contact us on 01270 610441 for a chat. We will explore your situation in more detail, plan your campaign and deliver results.

5 Reasons Why it is Important to Continue Advertising in a Recession

Challenging and turbulent times force us to rethink our strategies and adapt to the situation. When the going gets tough, businesses take a hit. The coronavirus crisis, for example, has triggered an unprecedented global shutdown, which has led to an inevitable revenue slowdown. Lower demand for certain products and services is a blow to businesses. The natural instinct is to cut the marketing budget until the crisis blows over.

Hunkering down, however, brings its own problems. If a business drops off the radar it is easily forgotten about in the mind of the consumer, which weakens a brand. Whereas consumer studies show that if you continue to advertise during an economic downturn, it can help a business survive a recession. Here are 5 reasons why recession advertising may help you to retain your market share or even increase it:

1. Marketing in a Recession Can Attract New Business

If you are smart and creative with ad campaigns during a recession, you have the potential to reach new customers. Highlight what value you offer customers. For example, Proctor & Gamble focused on “value” when advertising Bounty kitchen roll during the 2008 recession with a slogan: “Clean the mess with less”. The product wasn’t cheaper than bargain brands but the ad campaign suggested this “quality” product lasted longer than other kitchen rolls and was value for money, which appealed to customers on a budget.

2. Seize the Moment to Pull Ahead of the Competition

You can use market weakness to strengthen your brand. If your competitors pull back on marketing and go quiet during a down economy, this is an opportunity to use your advertising “voice” to be heard and attract attention. It’s a good time to take your brand to the next level. At TRCREATIVE, we understand the power and importance of great branding. A strong visual presence attracts attention, never more so than when your competitors take a back seat.

3. Make the Most of Increased Traffic Online

As the global coronavirus crisis took hold, mobile phone firms reported a 30% rise in internet traffic. If people are spending more hours online, it is a good time to launch your digital advertising campaign. Advertising when other businesses do not also sends out a message that you have a strong and stable presence in the market through uncertain times. This increases consumer confidence and attracts more people to your brand.

4. Take Advantage of Lower Advertising Costs

If other businesses put their marketing campaigns on hold during a recession, it has a knock-on effect. There is less competition on advertising channels, such as Google and Facebook. This means the cost to advertise online is reduced. As a result, you spend less per click on paid marketing campaigns. If you want to make the most of digital marketing opportunities, the team at TRCREATIVE are happy to discuss the best approach.

5. Use Your Marketing Efforts to Show Awareness

Tap into the mood of the consumer and show awareness. Use a recession to reinforce business core values, such as integrity and compassion. These values can underpin a positive advertising campaign. For example, carmaker Hyundai adopted this approach during the 2008 recession. Its ad campaign delivered this message: “Now finance or lease any new Hyundai, and if you lose your income in the next year, you can return it with no impact on your credit.” Showing compassion and understanding worked. Hyundai sales jumped 24% the following year. In uncertain economic times, people need to feel reassured and understood. If you can do this as a brand, it reinforces an emotional connection with consumers.

In conclusion, continuing to advertise during a recession is a smart move. Take advantage of lower advertising costs while getting the edge on competitors. The economy will bounce back. When it does, you don’t want to waste a moment in recovery mode. You want your business to be up to speed, experiencing strong sales off the back of successful advertising.

At TRCREATIVE we are here to help you navigate your way through a downturn. Don’t hesitate to call us on 01270 610441 to discuss digital marketing or explore other ways we can help your brand stand out in difficult times.

Is your business logo legal?

You need your business logo to be distinctive, eye-catching and memorable. These are the design qualities that make a logo great. Unfortunately, these count for nothing if you don’t have a legal logo design. Legal wrangling over licensing issues could land you in big trouble. It could damage your brand image and will most certainly cost you additional time and money if you have to start over and redesign your logo.

Read the small print

Problems tend to arise when you design your own logo using icons and illustrations from online stock libraries such as Shutterstock and iStockPhoto. Understandably, when you are creating your own logo, the focus may be more on the visual impact than the legal dos and don’ts. However, you should always read the small print. It will tell you that, for example, you can’t use any Shutterstock image as part of a trademark, service mark or logo.

Elsewhere, iStock is also specific about how you can (or cannot) use its licensed content: “You may not use content as part of a trademark, design mark, tradename, business name, service mark, or logo.” There isn’t much of a workaround either. When it comes to intellectual property rights, all of the licensed content is owned by either iStock or the artists who supply the content.

You can attempt to purchase an exclusive licence to an image but pricing very much depends on whether the artist wants to sell the exclusive copyright to their work. Furthermore, the artist will not assume responsibility for prior use, so it is entirely possible that the image is already associated with another business. Do you want to take the risk?

Eliminate risk

At TRCREATIVE, we eliminate that risk. We are an established design agency in Cheshire with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. It is our job to create bespoke brand identities that not only have a unique, relevant, distinctive appearance but also meet legal requirements when it is time to trade mark and register your logo design.

Taking your brand to the next level is a complex process. Your corporate image is key to creating a professional and trustworthy brand. It is about celebrating identity and making promises that your brand can keep. You will have peace of mind with a well-respected design agency. You can put your logo in our hands.

Our creative process is both in-depth and above board. We have a very specific way of working that involves careful research, allowing us to create a corporate image that is true to a defined brand strategy. An integral part of our job is to explore and experiment with colours, fonts and shapes to create logo designs that are truly different and special.

Above all, we understand the legalities involved in the design world and we know how to protect your brand identity. We’re here to help, not only in a creative way but also when it comes to intellectual property law. Is your logo legal? It is with TRCREATIVE.

5 reasons why you shouldn’t use logo-maker apps

Your logo is such an essential part of your business, you want to get the design right, right? Tempting as it might be to use an online logo maker, it is not advisable. Logo generator apps such as Wix or Canva might sound like the quickest and cheapest solution but quick and cheap are not necessarily better. Not when it comes to your logo. This is far too important. A generic design won’t represent your business in the same way that a bespoke logo can.

1. Not unique

With an online logo creator, you work with predesigned icons and symbols that are available to everyone. As a result, other businesses could create the same, or similar logo to yours. At TRCREATIVE, we specialise in logo design and creating a bespoke brand identity. We know that your logo must be unique and relevant. We work closely with our clients to create an original logo with high visual impact while communicating what their business is about.

2. Too generic

A logo generator takes a generic approach because it has to appeal to hundreds and thousands of businesses. Logos with broad appeal, available to everyone, lack that distinctive, creative design edge. TRCREATIVE creates logos that are noticeable and different. Our process explores colours, fonts, shapes and illustrations. This allows us to visualise and then shape a logo around your brand to make it stand out for all the right reasons.

3. Causes confusion

Just as you can’t write an original book by copying someone else’s words, you can’t create an original logo by using a logo generator with its off-the-shelf icons, symbols and colours. It is confusing for customers and potential customers if businesses with similar logos are in the same or similar market. You don’t want to mislead the customer. You want to build their trust and gain their respect. People are loyal to brands because they trust them.

4. Lacks creativity

The logo maker can’t ask questions. It doesn’t know your business. It can’t understand what your brand is about. TRCREATIVE gets to the heart of this. We incorporate your specific values and qualities into the logo design. We bring a level of thought and analysis to the design that you simply can’t get with a logo generator. We bring creative expression to the logo and create a unique story within the artwork. The result is a strong, distinctive piece of work that can be used for market communications to show consistency across your brand.

5. Copycat design

If you’ve used an online logo maker to create your logo, there’s nothing to stop another business generating a similar or identical one, especially if it quick and free to reproduce. The problem is, what’s to stop them from trading on your identity and reputation? To avoid this, the team at TRCREATIVE always turn each marque black and white and upload it to Google image search to ensure that it is unique. We can also work with you to register your new brand identity to protect it. Contact us today for more information. We work on logo design in Cheshire and our business is to help you create the right logo for your business.

We’re Officially a Google Partner

We’re very pleased to announce that TRCREATIVE has recently been awarded Google Partner status. This unlocks a range of benefits that we’re excited to share with our clients who trust us to manage their online advertising campaigns. As far as we know, we’re the only creative agency in our local area to have this credential. As an official Google Partner, we have:

  • Demonstrated Google Ads skills and expertise
  • Met Google ad spend requirements
  • Delivered company/agency and client revenue growth
  • Sustained and grown our client base

Mike Lawson, co-founder of TCREATIVE, says, “We’re proud to achieve Google Partner status. This professional accreditation demonstrates our product knowledge and expertise in paid search, which confirms we offer the latest and best digital marketing services to existing and future clients.”

Google Partner status is made official with a badge that we use on our website and marketing materials, online and offline. It’s an instantly recognisable sign that confirms we’ve met performance requirements and possess the required skill set to research and set up well-structured and highly effective Google Ads campaigns.

How does Google Partner Status benefit our clients? At a glance, it shows that we’ve passed exams and we’re qualified to do a professional job when it comes to growing their business. In more detail, here are other benefits outlined:

Run cost-effective campaigns

Google Ads certification reassures our clients that their advertising budget is in safe hands. We have a certified affiliated person within our team to manage Google Ads and make most of all the options available, which can otherwise be overwhelming, unproductive and expensive if you’re not familiar with all the features and settings.

In the loop with the latest updates

We have direct access to Google’s beta features, product updates and new applications. This allows us to test and use new features in order to run the most up-to-date campaign for our clients, keeping them ahead of the competition.

Maintaining high standards

We have to continue to perform well and maintain Google’s standards in order to keep our Google Partner status. Our clients know that we meet account management best practices, which means they’ll get the most out of Google Ads.

Share expert knowledge

We have direct access to a Google representative who can advise on any account issues, suggest improvements and help resolve any problems super-quick so our clients don’t lose out. We can also share advice with other partners within the Google community.

Access to training and support

We’re invited to attend Google events and have access to the latest training and support, which is always reflected in the efficient management of our clients’ accounts.

Actively running campaigns

The Partner badge shows we’ve met the 90-day ad-spend requirement across our managed accounts and therefore are actively managing a number of client accounts.

Ultimately, Google Partner status brings peace of mind to our clients. It is official proof that we really know what we’re doing in the competitive and often complex world of Google Ads and latest PPC practices. It’s about providing a premium service that compliments your SEO. Above all, it’s about making sure our clients grow their business in the most productive and cost-effective way.

TRCREATIVE is proud to celebrate 10 years in business

Time flies when you’re busy working on creative design, web design and build and digital marketing. One minute, baby steps as the business gets off the ground and then, before you know it, double figures. We’re delighted to hit this special milestone. Before we get the office party started, let’s look back at how and where we came about and also how far we’ve come.

TRCREATIVE founders Lynsey Edwards and Mike Lawson met and bonded over fonts and layouts when working for other agencies. Both shared a passion to set up a design studio, therefore it made perfect sense to form a creative partnership and start their own business.

Established in 2009, TRCREATIVE was born in a barn in Brereton, Cheshire. It was an old barn with no heating and no bean-to-cup coffee machine but it was a great creative space. It was soon a hub of activity and innovative design, starting with leaflets, logos and websites.

Richard Rankin, the founder of Team Rewards, a firm specialising in employee benefits, is also part of TRCREATIVE’s success story. “Richard owned the barn and put a roof over our heads 10 years ago,” says Lynsey. “His business experience and mentoring have also been invaluable.”

Indeed, the “TR” in TRCREATIVE, is a nod to Team Rewards and Richard is still very much involved; the two businesses work closely together today. There’s also been a major office upgrade – home is now a characterful building in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

The location might have changed but the passion to create, develop and produce exceptional work for clients is as focused as it ever was, if not more. Our clients include TV celebrities Clare Balding and Charlotte Hawkins; Pets at Home; Clive Christian; Westbridge Furniture; Cheshire West & Chester Council and NHS; and a number of new brands, too.

Over the 10 years, here are 10 things we’ve learned and celebrated along the way:

  1. Learn and grow: we started out designing logos and websites. Now our services include branding, latest website design and development and a specialised digital marketing team.
  2. Embrace change: the digital world never sleeps. We’re constantly adapting to change to get best results in social media advertising, Google Ads, PPC, SEO and conversion rate optimization.
  3. Nurture team spirit: a business that pulls together, stays together. Creatives and developers within the team share ideas and inspire each other. We even take it in turns to make the tea.
  4. Keep it real: we’re a friendly team of people who communicate directly with clients. There’s no middle-man or creative hierarchy. Our streamlined operation produces better-targeted work.
  5. Make it memorable: whether it is branding, creative design or advertising campaigns, whatever we do, we make sure it is highly effective, beautiful and memorable.
  6. Never stop learning: we continue to explore, question and learn. Achieving Google Partner status or attending seminars, we do whatever it takes in order to offer the best services.
  7. Bring on the challenge: we get excited about exploring new ways to keep our clients happy, including developing unique solutions and building websites to exact requirements.
  8. Build relationships: we take pride in creating a close working relationship with our clients. So much so, we retain 93% of our clients, year on year.
  9. Love what you do: Passion keeps us fresh and motivated. We’re obsessed about creating, building and problem-solving. This is evident in our design, storytelling and communication.
  10. Look to the future: we are growing our digital marking department. We’ve also launched our own premium template websites to help smaller businesses have a better presence online.

From a big dream and an old barn to a thriving team in a vibrant design studio, we’ve come a long way. Technology and contemporary culture have a big impact on our industry, so we’re always thinking “what next?” But first, the office party. It is time to celebrate 10 years of TRCREATIVE. Did someone say cake?

Use the Power of Social Media Advertising to Build a Stronger Business

It’s hard to attract someone’s attention if they’re not looking in your direction. They might turn around eventually, maybe, if you’re lucky, or they might not. Social media advertising works in much the same way. If customers don’t actually see your ad, all that cost and effort will be for nothing.

We’ve noticed a trend among our clients. More and more are reaching out to us for help with their digital marketing. Business posts and pages are simply not getting seen by their audience. Interaction can be as low as 2%. It could be that the post is too general or, most likely, it’s dropping in front of the wrong people at the wrong time.

The good news is that the team at TRCREATIVE can turn this around with our experience in creating well-structured and targeted social media advertising campaigns. And luck has nothing to do with it.

There are 2.32 billion monthly active Facebook users worldwide. Admittedly, that seems like an overwhelming crowd of people but it’s also a lucrative crowd. With that number of users, you’ll most definitely find an audience who wants to connect and engage with your business or organisation.

We cut through the crowd

Fortunately, we know how to cut through the two-billion-something chatter and have a direct conversation with those who are interested in what you have to say or sell.

Our latest social media advertising campaigns were a sell-out success for one of our clients, owners of a hotel, restaurant and wedding venue. They asked us for our help and we tailored the ads to suit their events. The first one was a Mother’s Day lunch. We set up and promoted this event on Facebook as well as creating offline media (posters) to display around the premises. The result was a 30% increase in bookings in comparison to the previous year making it a sold-out event.

Hot on the heels of this success we managed the hotel’s second event, which was a Spring Night Party. It was sold out during the course of a three-week digital marketing campaign.

How did we do this? We target the right audience based on gender, age and location and we send them in the direction of your business. We can create a call-to-action ad that allows your audience to make a booking or make a purchase, or drive them to your website. Here’s what else we can do:

  • We use the advanced targeting tools to reach a more specific audience
  • We choose the advertising objectives that work within your budget
  • We can show your ads across social media, not just Facebook, to reach a wider audience
  • We pick the creative to suit your brand
  • We know the latest advertising features available to keep you ahead of the competition

Facebook algorithm changes mean it is more important than ever to get your digital marketing right. In light of this, we make sure your advertising is structured properly and laser-targeted. We make sure you get your money’s worth and more. The power of social media advertising can make your business go from strength to strength, starting from today. Get in touch and we’ll show you how.

Small Business Website Design

Local creative design, website design & build and digital marketing agency TRCREATIVE are dedicated to helping support small businesses and are proud to launch a new website product offering that bridges the gap between free DIY website templates and fully bespoke website design.

As award-winning website designers and developers, TRCREATIVE keep getting approached by smaller companies to create simple, affordable and professional looking websites. Each company needing the same website features but customised to their company’s identity.

Creative Director, Lynsey Edwards says, “So we put our heads together and have so far created two well designed and developed template sites. Our products are not only beautiful but also well targeted to fi t the specific market places.”

Digital Director, Mike Lawson says, “In a nutshell, a template website customised and managed for you, designed and developed by us. You send us all of your content and images and we’ll create your new site for you. Easy! The problem with free or cheaper template sites is that the website code is often written badly, which Google hates. Ours is all nice, clean code and we manage it for you.”

Lynsey continues, “We help our customers take their brand to the next level, on and off-line. Now we want to also help smaller companies by giving them a step up with better online presence. Then as their businesses grow, our team can further support them in other areas of design and marketing such as brochures, digital marketing and SEO.”

So far TRCREATIVE have created two specific website templates, one for small businesses to showcase up to four of their services and the other for food eateries such as restaurants and bars. The initial payment for TRCREATIVE to update a template for a new customer is £895 for the business site and £595 for the restaurant site. They both have a monthly fee which starts from £25. This fee includes hosting, professional mailbox, domain management, security updates and up to one content and image update per month.

Keep it clean and simple. An uncluttered layout is easier on the eye than a crowded composition, making it easier to read. Give words and images room (white space) to breathe. Get off to a strong start with a clear and concise contents page so readers can easily navigate the entire prospectus. Don’t be afraid to introduce different colours, icons and/or tabs to make each section stand out.

Make content very readable

  • Choose your fonts wisely. Big, bold typefaces are easier to read than lighter, smaller, more decorative fonts. Bear in mind that certain fonts set at 12pt, for example, can appear bigger or smaller depending on the specific font.
  • Opposites attract. Aim for a good contrast between background and font colour to make words stand out and easier to read.

Keep course descriptions on point

  • Break down courses into clear and concise sections with a short, snappy intro.
  • Include course name; grade requirements; course level/award; and career opportunities.
  • Integrate profiles between the course descriptions: meet a staff member; student studying relevant course; former student’s employment success.

Include a strong call to action

  • How to apply should be clear and obvious.
  • Show links to social media channels.
  • Shine the spotlight on Contact Us. Clearly direct people to email, phone, and website for enrolment details, more information and enquiries.

Add great copywriting

Give them a reason to keep on reading. Great content should speak directly to the reader and grab their attention. Use the word “you” to make a personal connection. Stick to plain English and sound genuine. Sentences should be straightforward and engaging. Set the tone and be consistent. Aim to sound welcoming but not too informal. Make it conversational, never complicated. End with a clear call to action.

Know your target audience

  • Your audience is not just students but also parents and carers.
  • Appeal to schools, including local schools who may have a preference for local colleges.

Make copy memorable

  • Use bullet points to highlight important information.
  • Include bite-size details that are easy to remember.
  • Include quotes from students to add credibility and bring content alive.
  • Don’t overwhelm with information overload. Be relevant and on point.

Use vibrant photography

Keep it real. Use vibrant and diverse images that represent people learning within a thriving college environment. Photographs of students in a natural, relaxed setting will appeal to prospective students and reassure parents. Showcase the college’s facilities, classrooms and accommodation to familiarise people with the place.

Don’t be afraid to go large

  • Consider full-page photography for maximum impact.
  • Larger images help to break up areas of written content, especially course sections, and help to sell the overall college lifestyle and experience.

Use images to communicate

  • Photographs get the message across when attention spans are short. Our brains process visual information much quicker than words.

Share the success

Be proud of achievements. Let people know about any college success. Shout out about awards, accreditations, partnerships and impressive pass rates. Mention successful alumni and post-graduate achievements. This information helps to build a solid, credible reputation.

Highlight popular facilities and specialist areas

  • Focus on USPs, such as cinema; virtual reality (VR) labs; 3G football pitches.
  • Think practical. Mention training kitchens; beauty salons; IT suites.

Aim to inform and inspire

  • Share success stories of former students.
  • Include staff/teacher Q&A sessions to inspire potential students and families.

Celebrate college life

Show off the college’s fun side. Remind people that higher education is not just about course work, tutorials, revision, and exams. Outside the classroom, there are great opportunities to meet new people, discover fun activities, and learn new skills. These opportunities also help to reduce stress, boost confidence, and increase a sense of belonging among students.

Create an inclusive atmosphere

  • Let people know there is something for everyone.
  • Give information on clubs (chess, dance, theatre, cooking, sports).

Make a difference

  • Talk about events and fundraisers that bring people together and raise funds and awareness for different charities.
  • Discuss volunteering opportunities and helping with local organisations.

Outline key dates

Look organised. Forward-planning and calling attention to key dates are signs of good management. Planning is a fundamental part of modern life, especially when people are busier than ever. Promote relevant dates throughout the year to keep people informed and up to date. As well as the obvious (term dates, etc.), include dates of fairs and mention charity events to give a sense of community spirit. Additionally, dates of workshops and speakers will inspire and motivate students.

Save the date, some examples:

  • Enrolment deadline.
  • Term dates for the academic year.
  • Holidays and Bank Holidays.
  • Open evenings.
  • Future fund-raising events.

Location and how to get there

Be helpful and informative. Include location map, address (including postcode) and directions. Outline different modes of public transport, journey routes, distance, and online links to planning a journey. Look responsible by encouraging sustainable travel options that reduce carbon emissions.

Mention discounts and savings

  • Advise on student travel discounts including eligibility for free travel.
  • Give money-saving tips, where possible, on travel.

Include sustainable travel information

  • Give details on far it is to walk from bus/train station to college.
  • Include bike hire details if any.
  • Highlight safe walking routes.
  • Suggest car clubs or park and ride schemes.

How to apply

Never assume, explain the process. Break it down into simple step-by-step stages, or add diagrams to visually describe the steps in the process. Consider adding a summary of ‘what happens next’ once the application has been submitted.

Provide extra information and reminders

  • Highlight application deadlines and interview dates.
  • Refer to UCAS (ucas.com). The universities and colleges admission service offers detailed information on how to apply and advises on finance.
  • Discuss university partnerships (if any).
  • Encourage people to check out open events.

Polish the final product

Go extra on the details to make your prospectus stand out (see below). Take time to proofread (spellcheck, grammar, links, deadlines, dates) the prospectus before sending it to print.

Choose size and format

  • Consider size options: A4, A5, 210x210mm. Will it need to be posted or should it be sized to fit in display racks?
  • Check page numbers/pagination. You can save costs by having fewer pages and more links to your website (for more information).

 Add a print finish

  • Make you prospectus stand out from the crowd with a striking print finish applied to the cover: spot varnish; metallic foil; embossing; die cuts.
  • Choose a quality stock for inner pages with no show through.
  • Print on FSC sustainable paper to show you are helping the environment.

Embrace digital trends

  • Encourage traffic to your website. Direct potential students online to download further information: course information sheets (in-depth overview of individual courses); personalised prospectus (online tool that generates a personalised version of the prospectus including specific courses chosen by the student).

Keep design consistent

Eliminate confusion, build trust. Design consistency across all marketing material (see below) strengthens brand identity, which is key to raising the profile of a college and communicating its core message. A clean, concise and consistent design looks professional and stands out from the competition, which in turn attracts students and boosts recruitment.

Pay attention to detail

  • Check fonts and sizes.
  • Choose brand colours.
  • Use strong icons.
  • Keep voice tone consistent.

Keep design consistent across all marketing material

  • Social media.
  • Online advertising.
  • Print adverts.
  • Posters (upcoming events).
  • Course sheets.
  • Signage (campus and internal).

Local SEO – What is it and why you need it

It’s estimated that in 2018 there was around 7 billion to 10 billion searches per day in Google.

“82% of smartphone users use a search engine when looking for a local business” via Think with Google. Yet according to Brand Muscle via Local Search Association, “56% of local retailers haven’t claimed their Google My Business listing.”

This is a huge missed opportunity for these local retailers who risk being overlooked in search results, which means missing out on a chance to engage with potential customers. Fortunately, it’s easy and free (for now) to turn this situation around. Here’s how:

Introducing local SEO services

What is Local SEO?

Local Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) helps your company stand out in the search results, boosting the chances of attracting active customers who are in your area.

Local SEO is used for location-based searches, which means that a location or physical address is essential. This is because Local SEO focuses on offering results that are relevant to the searcher, based on their location (estimated or actual) – even more so for searches on a mobile device.

For example, if you search for ‘taxi’ on your phone, Google offers you the results which are nearest and relevant.

Why is Local SEO significant?

A significant number of customers conduct local searches on a daily basis to find local businesses in their location for both their products and services. Claiming your Local SEO helps you boost your chances of being found by prospective customers.

Local SEO is free

It’s usually free to claim listings on Yahoo Local, Bing Places for Business, Google My Business, and hundreds of other business directories, but this may not be the case forever. While it’s somewhat time-consuming [uploading information and images about your business, it is worth doing in order to reach high converting, high targeted in-market prospects.

Highly Targeted

Local SEO offers prospective customers the information they desire, when they want, making search engine optimisation both extremely cost-effective and efficient.

Besides, there are many users who do not have a particular business/brand in mind when searching for local products and services, therefore, local SEO will promote your business – helping put you in a front of the right people.

Local search drives local sales

A business’s location is the primary reason sought by most local people.

There are direct links between local sales, local visits, and local searches. In the future, you should pay special attention to voice search strategies.

Often the traffic comes from customers who are driving or in transit while looking for the best deals the local area offers. For example, ‘hotel’.

Search engine optimisation can highlight your business to the searcher, which converts to local sales.

First-page Google rankings are essential to the success of a business.

Businesses that operate locally are becoming more competitive with search engine optimisation, especially when you consider that more than 95 per cent of users do not make it past the first page of search engine.

How to optimise your Local SEO

It all starts with Google My Business…

Google My Business Logo

Google My Business

Visit Google My Business (GMB) and ensure that your name, contact details, address, opening hours, and contact information are up to date.

Also, make sure that your whole profile is complete. However, choosing the relevant categories is by far the most important part of local SEO.

Categories offer Google a better comprehension of what your business is about and what it does. This is one of the easiest ways for your business to be displayed in maps and search engines.

On your Google My Business profile, add as much additional information as you can, such as the area your business serves, business photos, opening hours, phone number and even your opening date. The more information you can complete, the better.

Top Tip for your GMB profile; make sure you have a clear and consistent NAP (Name, Address and Phone).

Local Pack vs Organic Listings

The Local Pack is the list of business, usually above the organic results in Google and it usually displays 3 businesses that Google see as the best match for the searcher.

To rank for the local pack, you should focus on creating citations to your exact location and developing relevant, trusted content. Local ranking is primarily based on proximity but other factors such as links, reviews, and citations can have a positive impact.

Organic listings require you to focus on developing great content that other sites will link to. Links are important in organic listings, more than they are in the local pack but Google is introducing a blended algorithm where sites that rank well organically will also rank well in maps.

Brands perform better when they are ranked organically as they attain links naturally through their content, press, and size.

According to a study by Bright Edge, over 40 percent of revenue is generated through organic search traffic, paid search just 10% and social accounts for 10% of traffic.

Local SEO means increased conversions, traffic, and engagement

With the growing domination of mobile traffic, local search is an integral part of the success of small and medium-sized businesses. Local search engine optimisation aims at boosting your dominance locally.

If the searcher is looking for a ‘dentist’ then Google will recognise their location and display a local pack of the dentists in their area. Optimising your Google My Business (GMB) Listing will ensure your practice is the one that Google chooses to display in Maps.

On-page local SEO

When you are optimising local pages on your site, it is vital to add the address on the page and the location within your content and a page’s title tag. The title tag should include the keywords targeted, location, and the brand name.

Moreover, if you have an address include it in the footer as an extra reference. Adding a map on the local place pages and ‘contact us’ page can come in handy for your SEO ranking too as it explicitly shows Google the location of your business.

Factors important in Local SEO Marketing

Proximity

Distance focuses on how far a prospective customer is from the location term incorporated in the search. If the user does not specify their location in the search, Google calculates the distance based on what is known about where they are, especially when using a mobile device.

Categories

Google is clever, very clever but it also needs a helping hand. Choosing relevant categories in your GMB profile will ensure that what Google thinks your business is about, is actually what you do.

Links/Citations

Your brand should appear across the internet consistently. Whether that be on a national directory or a local news website, your NAP (Name, Address and Phone number) should be the exact same. The more websites that mention and/or link to your website the better in eyes of Google.

The Psychology Of Branding

The effects of branding are all around us, and many of us likely don’t even realise the impact clever positioning within the marketplace has had upon why we choose the products, services and companies we do. Branding is one of the most crucial aspects of any business or product launch, but it’s about much more than simply making things look and sound ‘nice’. There is a great deal of thought and psychological study applied to every single choice savvy marketers use when building a brand from the ground up.

Appealing to Customers

Your brand defines what sort of company you are, which can have a tremendous impact not only upon employees and company culture, but particularly on customers, who see your branding as the first vital clue as to what they’re getting if they choose you over a competitor. Human psychology is the motivating factor behind why consumers choose one seemingly identical product over another; and this is influenced, subconsciously, by branding. Whether applied to new toothpaste or a new car, every single saleable item in the world has been branded by someone and targeted at a specific customer base – a sobering thought for those who consider themselves above the allure of consumerism, perhaps…

Creating Need

maslow's hierarchy of needs five stage pyramid

One of the most prominent psychology models frequently applied to branding is Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs. This pyramid-structure motivational theory suggests that people are motivated to fulfil certain needs, with some taking precedence over others. When applied to branding, the subjective needs for self-actualisation (positioned at the top of the pyramid) often take precedence, particularly in the case of brands which do not appear to serve a purely practical purpose. Even the most seemingly utilitarian item can be branded to fulfil some need within the classification of self-actualisation, and as Maslow’s theory states this is a need which is never entirely satisfied but always sought, it is particularly appealing to customers as a way to create continual, never-ending need.

Building Brand Recognition

Building a brand requires that customers are able to instantly recognise ‘their’ brand, enabling them to choose it over all others. Much of this is done through clever design which aims to convey not simply the practical attributes of a particular product, but its psychological benefits as well. This creates an accessible window through which the customer can begin to form a bond with a brand – and fuels repeat purchases. Food brand Heinz uses its simple, retro branding to convey classic ideas of comfort, warmth and reliability; just as Coca Cola branded itself with a timeless font and packaging. These branding choices are gleaned through a combination of careful consumer research into what it is their customers value, and the studious application of established psychological theories, blending to make a product into something which surpasses the purely functional and takes on additional characteristics, making it into a brand.

Is it time for a rebrand?

The importance of making sure your branding is well-defined and authentic can’t be overstated, giving your customers a vital peek into your company culture and priorities. Done right, your brand is one of the most valuable assets your company or product has – but if your current branding isn’t working for you, it might be time to consider switching things up a little. Here are some of the key signs it’s time for a rebrand:

YOU’VE CHANGED YOUR STRATEGY

If your strategic plans and goals have changed since you first began trading or launched your product, maybe it’s time to rethink your branding? Failure to change when the time is right could lead you to fall behind your competitors, and ultimately lose you custom.

YOUR BRAND NO LONGER REPRESENTS YOU

Your brand is your calling card to the world, and if it’s no longer representational of your values, services or product, it might be time for a change. Whether you established your company 5 years ago or 50 years ago, perhaps what you thought your company would become didn’t come to fruition – and instead you evolved into something else. There is no need to stick with your original branding if it’s not getting across the message you want it to.

YOU’RE TARGETING A NEW MARKET

Looking to expand into other markets or target other demographics? It might be time to call in the rebranding team. What served you well in the past could well hold you back when it comes to sourcing new customers in the present, so if your current brand feels like a weight around your neck rather than an asset, consider investing in a new image.

YOU DIDN’T PRIORITISE BRANDING EARLY ON

When first setting up a business or launching a product, it’s entirely possible you had neither the time, knowledge or resources to create quite the sort of brand you would have liked. If you find yourself feeling embarrassment rather than pride every time you hand over your business card, don’t be afraid to rebrand.

YOU ARE ALIENATING TOP TALENT

Top companies want to attract the best talent, and if your current branding is proving off-putting to the best potential new staff, then considering changing it is an entirely valid and proactive choice. Without great team members it will be hard to see real growth in the future – you need talented people with big ideas who are capable of getting things done. If employees with these qualities are running for the hills, it’s probably time for a change.

For the branding and rebranding, if they could add in a bit about how important it is to have a well defined, authentic company culture that the whole company and customer base relates to – for the buy in, that would be great.

Why use a branding agency and what exactly do they do?

WHAT IS A BRANDING AGENCY?

A branding agency offers a specialised service that will create, build, improve, shape and strengthen your brand (your promise to your customer). The business term “branding” involves strategical action to make your business stronger through public perception. Small, medium, and large companies all need branding. It’s how you stand out from the competition and it allows you to better connect with your customer.

At trCREATIVE, we understand that branding might mean starting from scratch and developing a brand in its entirety, or it could simply be about refreshing what you’ve already got (a rebrand) to bring your business bang up to date. Whatever you need, we’re creative and clear-headed. We think, develop and implement. We never get lost in what we do.

WHAT EXACTLY DOES A BRANDING AGENCY DO?

If you’re considering using a branding agency for your business, then you’ll want to get a handle on exactly what they do and, most importantly, what they can do for you.

As you’d expect, a good branding agency will be experienced and specialised with a professional approach when it comes to developing and supporting your brand. At trCREATIVE, attention to detail and in-depth knowledge about what your business is all about is essential before a brand strategy can even begin to get underway. This groundwork sets the foundation for the creative process, design, image, and communication.

Any branding agency worth its salt knows the importance of the logo – it’s the heartbeat that pumps the brand message around your business. Branding, of course, is not just about the logo but it is an important identification badge in business. Your website, packaging, promotional materials will integrate your logo, therefore it’s got to be great. Indeed, everything to do with your business should communicate your brand.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that a branding agency is not about a one-off quick fix. It’s about a well-thought-out process that takes into consideration your goals and objectives, your values and your brand promise, as well as thorough knowledge about how you connect and communicate with your target audience and, of course, your employees. As thebrandingjournal.com observes, a branding agency is like an additional department within your organisation.

A specialised branding agency will also know your market inside out and will identify your competitors. This will give insight into how other brands are doing and how your brand stands out or doesn’t, alongside the competition.

DOES BRANDING WORK?

Good branding works brilliantly. Look no further than examples of some businesses that have raised their profiles and profits through highly effective branding. Fashion brand Paul Smith went from one shop in 1970 to 300 worldwide with a healthy annual turnover of 200 million. Shelter, before its rebrand, reached 80,000 service users. Fast forward 10 years with branding in place and Shelter now reaches 5 million. Other success stories include Miller Lite. It raised its market share and increased profit by over £30 million after a re-design. Amazon also reaped the rewards of a re-design. Its instantly recognisable logo has been printed over 100 billion times on packaging since the logo revamp.

Branding in Five and a Half Steps by Michael Johnson highlights the case for putting the work in before and after rebranding. He stresses the importance of data collection, stating that if an organisation collects enough data about its company pre-brand and continues to do so post-change, the brand project should see a significant boost in business: more brand awareness, more funds raised, and so on. Information about a brand does go a long way. Gathering data is one of the surest ways to clarify what is unique about a company, product, person or organisation. This invaluable knowledge contributes to overall branding effectiveness in the long-term.

BRAND STRATEGY AND IDENTITY – THE PROCESS

What does an effective brand strategy look like? In short, it’s a well-defined one. It’s detailed and in-depth and involves questions and, ultimately, on point answers. There are various things to be taken into consideration and it begins with an honest assessment of your business, highlighting strengths and pinpointing any weaknesses. It’s about getting inside the minds of your customers and prospects. Entrepreneur.com defines brand strategy as “how, what, where, when and to whom you plan on communicating and delivering on your brand messages”. The branding strategy can be broken down:

Research: brand strategy starts by asking questions about your business to get the most accurate idea of what the brand is about and what you want to achieve. Detailed research and analytics at this stage lay the foundation for what comes next.

How: planning needs to take place on how to get your brand message out there. For example, will be visual or verbal? What distribution channels will you use?

What: discussing what your brand message should communicate is a vital part of the branding process. Keep the message succinct and relevant: it will be better understood.

Where: identifying where you want to deliver your brand message sharpens overall communication focus.

When: establishing a timeline and working out when the brand launch or re-brand will happen gives a deadline to work towards and sharpens time management.

Brand identity is when you really drill down on the details; no relevant question should be left unanswered. This is the moment you define your brand. As entrepreneur.com explains, defining your brand is the journey of business self-discovery and there are 4 key points to consider:

  1. Define your company’s mission.
  2. Explain the benefits and features of your products/services.
  3. What do people think about your company?
  4. What qualities would you like to be associated with your brand.

This business self-discovery, of course, involves research, and lots of it. This is the only way you can truly learn the needs, wants, likes, dislikes, and habits of the people who are going to engage and buy into your brand.

Once you know what your brand represents and who it will appeal to, you can really get the brand ball rolling. Here are key points to consider:

Brand logo:your logo is going to go e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. So it needs to be a good one.

Brand messaging: whatever you want to say about your brand, it needs to be communicated clearly and effectively. Your employees should also know exactly what your brand is all about so they can promote the brand at every opportunity with confidence and clarity.

Brand integration: every single thing that moves, breathes or relates to your business gets the branding treatment. Not just obvious stuff such as packaging, uniforms, or signage but all the rest too, including email signatures and what you/staff say when you pick up the phone. Like glitter, the brand message should get everywhere.

Brand voice: set a tone and stick with it. Ask yourself what you want your brand voice to “sound” like. Do you want to come across as friendly and chatty or more grown-up and formal? The tone should reflect the brand. This “voice” will be consistently used across all communication from email correspondence and marketing material to newsletters and social media content, so make sure you like the sound of it.

Brand tagline: think of something short and snappy that sums up what your brand’s about in a few words. Attention spans are short these days so you’ve got to get your brand across in the time it takes to thumb swipe.

Brand design: whenever you get creative, be consistent. Choose fonts and colours, then stick with them. Know where your logo will go. Design work should have the “same” look and feel to it – this will make it instantly recognisable.

Brand promise: only say it if you mean it. If you make a brand promise, always follow it through. If you get caught out on a lie, customers will never trust or recommend your brand.

Brand reputation: what people think of your brand, their expectations of your brand, and their belief in your brand promise – this is what your brand reputation is made of. So whatever you do in connection with your brand, it should make you proud.

BRANDING IN A NUTSHELL

Before we break down branding into different types (because one size doesn’t fit all), it’s important to point out that there is one core purpose that unites the entire process, despite the differences. One thing remains the same: branding is understanding. At trCREATIVE, we know that the more we understand and get to know your business, the more we have to work with when it comes to creating a great strategy that will, ultimately, result in an awesome brand. Your brand.

THE BIG BRANDING BREAKDOWN (DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRANDING)

What type of branding will work best for you? This entirely depends on your needs and wants.

Corporate branding

Corporate branding is about taking a brand image and making it more powerful, positive, and memorable (for all the right reasons). In this instance, it’s not about promoting products and services. It’s about building brand awareness and standing out from the crowd and competitors. It means building trust with your target audience.

Choosing trCREATIVE means you’ll be working with a dynamic team of people who know exactly what to do when it comes to developing and promoting your brand. We know what it takes to create positive perceptions and associations in people’s minds, which is key to loyalty and repeat business.

We’re also big on meaningful branding. The actual word “corporate” might sound large and officious but every brand still needs to come across as approachable and “human”. Okay, so a corporate business is not necessarily a touchy-feely one, but you don’t want to scare people away. Our team at trCREATIVEunderstands that meaningful branding needs a “human” touch. Your brand can be likeable as much as it is reliable. There also needs to be a “realness” to how you come across, not an aloofness. It can get lonely out there if no one interacts with your brand.

Rebranding

There’s truth in the saying, a change is as good as rest. If your brand is tired and not performing as good as it once did, business will suffer. Customers don’t want “tired”, they want fresh and perky; they want to buy from an energised brand that’s full of optimism and passion, a brand that looks as though it’s at the top of its game. We specialise in this field because we’ve built up a great deal of experience through rebranding.

If you don’t give people what they want, they’ll simply head over to your competitors. Before it gets to this, let us help you make a change for the better. Think of it as a new look, a freshen up, a business nip and tuck. This is what a rebrand is all about – bringing your brand and logo bang up to date. You want to look as good as the products and services that you sell. Experience is not the only reason trCREATIVE is big on rebranding. We get excited about this side of the business too. We love the whole process: the “before” and “after” transformation makes it all worthwhile.

Rebranding has some great success stories, so it’s definitely worth considering even though it might seem daunting at the time. “Rebranding Lessons from Airbnb, Instagram, and Google” takes an interesting look at how a re-brand works (and when it doesn’t) on a global scale. It raises some good points. For example:

Don’t just follow: don’t blindly follow re-brands trends just because everyone else is doing it. Not only does this put your brand at risk of looking like everyone else, you might get caught up in doing what’s popular but not necessarily right for your brand.

Don’t rush in: if your competitors are re-branding, it’s easy to get the fear of missing out and think you’re getting left behind. Rushed decisions and change for change’s sake is asking for trouble. Instead, put the time into research and gathering information; this will put you in a stronger position when it comes to making the right decisions for your brand.

Do grow and change: evolve with your brand. No one and nothing stays the same. Over time, brands need some TLC and a refresh. This shows your customers and your competitors that your brand exists in the moment. You are prepared for the future and whatever challenges and changes lie ahead.

Do test your designs: put new designs out to focus groups and listen to feedback. Google’s rebranding was tested exhaustively before its new identity was revealed. It didn’t spring any surprises either; it let its audience know what was going on and that rebranding was in process. Sometimes people need time to come around to change. Customers are creatures of habit; they’re loyal and they like what’s familiar and comfortable, so a little advance warning and transparency goes a long way.

Product branding

Now, this is a really interesting part of branding. It almost works like mind reading, getting inside the heads of your customers and having a poke about to see what makes them choose a certain brand. Like buyer psychology, we apply this process to your product branding. It needs to convey the “must-have” factor and it needs to shout “pick me,” over all the other similar products out there.

People are marketed to all the time, so your product needs to have a big, shouty voice and stand head and shoulders above the competition otherwise it will never get noticed. We’ll put all our experience into your product branding to make whatever you’re selling look special and unique. It’s about creating that “whatever you’re selling, I’m buying” mindset. In other words, we’ll make you irresistible. People will come back for more.

OUR BRANDING PROCESS

We’re wildly creative and big thinkers but we’re also super methodical when it comes to branding. As much as we love visualising and storytelling, we also like a plan. There is a process to everything we do and we break it down into key stages:

  1. Question
Knowledge is power. We always start in question mode. It’s the investigation part of the branding process. It’s about digging deep and unearthing all the information about your business. Granted, it’s not always going to be pretty but it’s the only way we can get a real feel for what is going on with your company or organisation. What makes you stand out from your competitors? How do you want to come across to the outside world? We address any problems you face and explore all the opportunities that exist or await. We can even set up focus groups to get a clearer idea of your public perception. This research is invaluable when it comes identifying weak spots or gaps that need to be strengthened/filled.
  1. Define
Once the groundwork research is done, we can start to really define what your brand is about – what it stands for and its core purpose. This is the “verbal” bit of the brand. Think of it as our “define before design” stage. We need to know what your brand narrative is before we can visually tell your story. By narrative, we mean how you would sum up your brand in words, like a headline or a paragraph. What do you want your brand to say to people? At this point, we’re already thinking how this verbal part will connect with the initial visual part of the branding process. Verbal and any early visual elements should ideally influence each other and come together or at least bounce off each other so we can prepare for the main design work, which becomes part of the overall story you want to tell.
  1. Design
Now the design work can start. Our designers will be fully briefed and the entire creative process is discussed in detail. The ideas begin to bounce back and forth until the strongest ones start to flow in the right direction. And if we need to do more research or have more discussions at this stage, we will. Then we’ll create 3 different concepts for you to choose from. This will give you an ideal opportunity to compare and contrast – to see which design speaks to you the most.
  1. Execute
Decision time, action time. This is when everything comes together – the preparatory research and the verbal and visual work of steps 1 and 2 have been carefully crafted into concepts that represent your brand. We showcase each one so you know exactly what to expect, which hopefully helps when it comes to picking “the one”. Once you’ve decided and everything’s agreed, we implement the concept and move it forward. Good execution at this stage means a successful launch. It means your brand it will be seen, heard, and understood.
  1. Develop
Yes, that’s right, we don’t stop. It might be the last stage but it’s by no means the end. Once your brand is launched, we know there’s still work to be done. To us, this “develop” stage is an on-going one because brand work needs to be monitored and progressed. We need to see how it comes across to people, how it engages them and makes them take notice. We’re on this brand journey together. Our focus and commitment keeps your brand fresh and relevant. There’s no point building a brand if no one’s around to take care of it. And down the line, when the time comes to revive it or refresh certain aspects of your brand, we’re already on the case.

THE IMPORTANCE OF A (GREAT) BRAND NAME

Your actual brand name sets the tone and personality of your brand. It is integrated into the design, logo, and communication of your business. Your brand name is your identity. It is your uniqueness.  It can evoke emotion, describe your business, or suggest meaning.

In a wider sense, a brand name is so important because it puts meaning behind the business. It should trigger a positive association. Powerful brand names drive demand and pricing power, according to Forbes when discussing the world’s most valuable brands. Look at some of the biggest companies out there – the billion-dollar value ones such as Apple, Google, Amazon. They drive huge profits and dominate their market. The one thing that unites each one, no matter their differences? These companies have a strong brand name. It carries weight. It forges excellent customer connections, bringing brand and person closer together.

In short, the stronger your brand, the greater your success. Your brand name is your superpower.

BRAND GUIDELINES

Guidelines keep your brand on the right track and moving in the right direction. Guidelines guarantee consistency across your brand, which reassures the customer. People like to know what they’re getting. Think of brand guidelines as a set of rules (the dos and don’ts) you should stick to. Your brand is your personality, your values, and your vision – your guidelines evolve around these key points.

Brand guidelines address all the important stuff you can’t afford to forget about, such as the rules surrounding the use of your logo; colour palette details; typography; what type of imagery or illustrations you use; a tone of voice; the language you use. Identifying all this and writing it down brings your brand together. It shows cohesiveness and consistency in everything you do.

Without guidelines, it’s easy to get lost. You never want to lose sight of what your brand’s about. We’ll take care of your brand guidelines. It’s one less thing for you to think about.

SSL Certificates: All You Need To Know

Whether you run a business online or you only head to a computer for personal use, you may or may not have heard of a SSL Certificates. Unless your job is in computers or you need to have a good knowledge of how a computer system works, most people will not notice SSL Certificates in their day to day use. But, if you are relying on a computer system for your business it is important to know what SSL Certificates do, who needs them and how they affect a website’s ranking on Google.

In short, if you have a website then it’s becoming increasingly important to have SSL Certificates. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Are SSL Certificates?

SSL Certificates are nothing like the certificates you may be used to seeing, the simple pieces of paper that are framed and displayed. In fact, SSL Certificates are much more similar to small data files. These files work together to create a bond between different parts of a server and browser using keys and codes, binding them to all the important information.

In short, SSL Certificates works to create secure connections; this is shown by the padlock icon that many URLs show. The padlock shows that they are secure connections and data is safe; all web traffic between the server and browser is secure and free from being misused or misplaced.

What Are The Benefits of SSL Certificates?

The obvious benefit of an SSL Certificate is that it provides a secure way for important information to be sent across the web. Whether you are transferring money, making a purchase or logging in to a website using an email address it is important that the information cannot be stolen.

However, there other benefits to having an SSL Certificate that are often overlooked.

  • SSL Certificates provide browser privacy.
  • They create customer trust and allow a user to visit a website knowing their information is safe and secure.
  • SSL Certificates improve conversion rates and sales as customers are more likely to buy knowing their bank details and payment information are safe.

SSL Certificates also increases a website’s rankings on Google. Google has recently placed an emphasis on encouraging online security and making the internet a safer place. As part of this initiative, Google now takes note of pages that are secured with an SSL Certificate and allows its searches to crawl HTTPS pages by default; a HTTPS is one that is secured by an SSL Certificate. This means that if you have SSL Certificates your website is likely to rank higher than those who do not. Whereas previously Google has ranked websites using things like SEO, keywords, links and traffic. It is now using SSL Certificates as a ranking factor.

Simply, if you’re website isn’t secure using SSL Certificates it could struggle to rank well for search terms.

Another problem with not having an SSL Certificate is that Google Chrome is now showing website without an SSL as non-secure. For example, those that are secure will display a message telling a user that, so they know that the website they are using is safe. However, those without HTTPS will carry a warning saying something along the lines of “your connection to the site is not secure” and they will be warned about entering important information. So, even if your website is secure unless it has an SSL Certificate people will be put off of using it.

This means less traffic and fewer sales.

Who Needs SSL Certificates?

SSL Certificates where previously most commonly used among businesses who need a secure connection, such as those who are taking bank details from customers or private information. Any website that processes logins, handles credit card transactions and data transfer also used them. However, it is now important that all websites consider an SSL Certificate.

Without an SSL Certificate a website will struggle to rank well in Google and will appear to be non-secure to users, both of which will have a knock on effect in regards to traffic and rankings.
